High-Density Styrene Board 10 mm from Tamiya - a sheet in B4 format

A high-density styrene board ten millimeters thick in B4 format, one piece per package. It is not a kit or a part of a model, but raw material for your own construction. Ten millimeters is a decent thickness: from a single sheet you can cut a base, a step in the terrain or the filling of a structure without having to laminate several thinner boards together.

What B4 format means

B4 is a Japanese paper format measuring roughly 364 by 257 millimeters. It is a practical size: it fits on a workbench, on a normal cutting mat and into a drawer, and still yields a base for a medium-sized diorama.

Use

• Cut with a sharp knife along a metal ruler in several successive passes. With a ten-millimeter board, expect not to get through in one pass.
• Edges and surfaces can be sanded into a slope or a rounded shape with abrasive paper.
• The higher density of the material holds its shape and the cut is cleaner than with soft foams, so the board works well even on more broken terrain.
• Before painting, cover the surface with plaster, modeling putty, texture paste or a thin styrene sheet so that the cut marks do not show.
• Test both glue and paint on an offcut first. Styrene materials tend to be sensitive to solvents, and aggressive chemicals can eat into them.

For builders of dioramas, display scenes and layouts who need a thicker board for a base or for terrain and do not want to build it up from thin layers. A good choice too for modelers who make their own display bases for finished models.

Do the cutting on a mat and with respect for the sharp blade. Do not inhale the dust after sanding and do not leave the offcuts within reach of children.
