This injection-molded plastic kit from the Border Model brand brings two subjects together in one box: the Pz.Kpfw.IV medium tank in the Ausf. J version in the early and mid production form, and a railway flatcar of the Ommr type. Such a pair is the basis of a popular diorama subject, the transport of equipment by rail. Scale 1:35 means that the scene can be completed with figures and further equipment from the widest choice available.
The Pz.Kpfw.IV was a German medium tank of the Second World War, built in a series of progressively revised versions. The Ausf. J is the last production version, in which the design was simplified for the sake of manufacture; the vehicles carried a long-barreled 7.5 cm gun designated KwK 40 with a barrel 48 calibers long. The designation Ommr belongs to a German railway flatcar that was commonly used to carry heavy loads, including tracked equipment.
Finish the running gear and everything inside the hull before you close the hull up. Tracks and wheels are easier to paint separately and are fitted only after the base shade. On the railway wagon it is worth paying attention to the wooden floor: the grain of the wood stands out after thinned dark washes and light drybrushing, while the metal elements respond to rust shades and pigments. Securing the vehicle on the flatcar, the chocks and the cables, is an opportunity for small detail. The whole scene benefits from a single layer of dust, which visually ties the tank and the wagon together.
