A modeling tool for creating splatters and irregular droplets on the surface of a model, for instance mud, rust or spilled oil.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Splatter Tool is used to fling thinned paint or pigment onto an area of a model. That produces the irregular droplets and stains left on real machinery by mud thrown up from wheels and tracks, by running rust or by spilled lubricating oil. The mark is created at random, so the result does not read as a repeated pattern, which is hard to achieve with a brush or an airbrush.
Thin the paint or pigment so that it is fluid enough and still keeps its saturation. Try the first few splatters on a piece of paper or on an old model, so that you know how large the droplets come out and from what distance to apply them. On the model work over small areas and let the surface dry between coats. The detailed procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Cover the area around the model with paper beforehand, because the droplets fly further than you expect, and you do not want them on the base or on the model next to it.
It comes into its own on military vehicles, on construction and agricultural machinery, on wrecks and in dioramas - anywhere the surface should look used. Splatters have a direction: mud flies up and back from wheels and tracks, while rust runs down from rivets and seams. If you keep to that direction, the area looks convincing even without further emphasis.
Clean the tool immediately after work with a thinner matching the paint you used; dried residue is far harder to remove and makes the next result worse. The tool is supplied on its own, and paints, pigments and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
