A photo-etched metal accessory in 1:16 scale from the Polish brand Aber. The plate carries an embossed anti-slip pattern and is intended for you to make from it the fenders for models of the Pz.Kpfw. I light tank in versions A and B and the Pz.Kpfw. II in versions A to F. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a detail set with which you complete a model built from another kit.
On the real subject the fenders are thin sheet-metal parts with an anti-slip pattern, but in a kit they are molded in plastic, that is in whatever thickness the production technology allows. On a model that shows: the edges look clumsy and the pattern tends to be soft. Photo-etched metal has the real thickness of sheet metal and the pattern is crisp, so once they are replaced the model looks markedly more faithful. In the large 1:16 scale, where the viewer examines a model close up, the difference is especially noticeable. A bonus is that photo-etched sheet can be bent into a curve or a dent and so suggest damage from use.
Cut photo-etched metal on a hard surface with a sharp knife or photo-etch shears, and do not break the parts out by twisting. Make the bends over a straight edge or in a bender so that they are straight and in line. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue, or with solder if you know how to work with it. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint flakes off. The anti-slip pattern comes out beautifully after a dark wash and a light drybrush.
This is an add-on set, not a model of a vehicle. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
