1:48 P-51H Mustang (USAF edition) is a plastic kit of the lightest and fastest production version of the Mustang from the maker Modelsvit, in a boxing aimed at postwar service with the US Air Force. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

A kit of the P-51H version, that is the lightened Mustang that came out of a demand for the highest possible performance. The package is a boxing aimed at service with the US Air Force; check the number of color schemes on the box. For a fighter the 1:48 scale is an ideal compromise — the model fits into an ordinary display case and still carries the cockpit and the landing gear with real detail.
The P-51H was the result of a thorough lightening of the Mustang's structure. The airframe was changed from the ground up: the fuselage is longer and slimmer, the vertical tail surface taller, the cockpit has a differently shaped canopy and the whole structure is lighter than on the better-known D version. With an American-built Rolls-Royce Merlin it became the fastest production Mustang of all. It no longer took any real part in the fighting of the Second World War, however — deliveries were ramping up too late. It therefore served mainly after the war, with the newly formed US Air Force and then with National Guard units, where it lasted until the arrival of the jet types. At first glance it can be told from the D version by exactly that taller fin and a different cockpit silhouette.
Before you start gluing, dry-fit the parts and do not rush the fuselage — on fighters that step decides how much work the seam behind the cockpit will give you. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Glue with a liquid cement for plastic and sand the joints once dry, then rescribe the engraving. The natural metal finish that suggests itself on postwar Mustangs calls for a flawlessly smooth base: a polished black or dark gray gloss base coat, and only then the metallic paint. Mix the metallic really thoroughly, apply it at the end and mask as little as possible, otherwise the surface is easily damaged. Gloss varnish belongs under the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
