The Greek Armored Cruiser Georgios Averof 1911-1913 is a printed Kagero publication devoted to the Greek armored cruiser Georgios Averof in the first years of her service. It is not a kit but a book for the modeling library.
Responsibility details are not available.
A title from Kagero's naval line. The name establishes the subject quite plainly: one particular ship and the span of 1911 to 1913, that is the first years in which the cruiser served under the Greek flag.
The Georgios Averof was built in an Italian yard and entered the Hellenic Navy in 1911. In design she followed the Italian armored cruisers of her day: the main battery in turrets forward and aft, a belt of armor and respectable speed by the standards of the time. In the period the name carries she was the strongest unit of the Greek fleet and its flagship. The fate of the vessel is unusual — the cruiser has survived to this day and is preserved as a museum ship, so she is among the handful of armored cruisers that can be seen with one's own eyes.
Anyone building or detailing a model of this cruiser runs into the fact that general surveys of warships of the day give an individual vessel only a few lines. A monograph focused on one name and one period is therefore a different category of aid in a modeling library than a general survey of fleets. It is also a rewarding subject for collectors — ships of the early twentieth century have broken-up superstructures, masts, funnels and boat cranes, which is exactly what makes a model interesting.
This is a printed publication. It is not a kit and not a modeling accessory; the package holds no parts for assembly.
