About product

Antennas and sensors of Soviet airliners 1:144, part 2 (Metallic Details)

A set of photo-etched antennas and sensors for Soviet and Russian civil aviation in 1:144 scale, designated as the second part of this range. Small exterior elements are exactly the ones that injection-molded plastic handles worst in a small scale, because they tend to be thick and blunt and it is often simpler to cut them off and replace them. A metal part a few tenths of a millimeter thick looks like a thin antenna even once varnished, not like a plastic lump. The set is not tied to a single type of airplane; it is conceived as a universal accessory for builds of civil machines.

What antennas and sensors are for on a model

Airliners carry a number of small protrusions on the fuselage: communication and navigation antennas, pressure and temperature sensors, beacons and venting elements. On a real machine they are inconspicuous, but on a model it is exactly they that decide whether the surface looks empty or alive. The placement differs by type and by the particular operator, so it pays to compare the model with a photograph of the machine you are building.

Usage tips

Before working, leave the parts on the tape, so that the small pieces are not lost. Separate them with a scalpel against a hard surface and sand the tabs down after cutting, so that the edge is clean. Always make the bend along the marked groove and finish it in a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades. As glue, use cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin in a really small amount, and on visible areas rather the gel kind, which does not run. Degreased sheet and a thin layer of primer are a condition for the paint and any washes to hold.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of civil airliners in 1:144 who are bothered by blunt plastic antennas.
  • Those interested in Soviet and Russian transport machines.
  • Modelers who work from photographic documentation of a particular machine.
  • Those who already have basic experience with photo-etched parts and cyanoacrylate glue.

This is an add-on set for a plastic model, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not tied to a single type; it is a set of small antennas and sensors for Soviet and Russian civil aviation in 1:144.

You do not. The designation part 2 means the second set from the same range, not a continuation that would build on the first part.

With cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin in a really small amount. It helps to pre-drill a shallow recess in the fuselage, because the part then does not shift.

Check the package contents on the packaging. It is always good to compare the placement with a photograph of the particular machine.
