This is an accessory set, not an aircraft model. It replaces the tail parts of the plastic C-5B Galaxy model with cast resin pieces that have sharper and finer surface detail. The set is aimed at modelers who are bothered by the simplified shape and softly engraved panel lines of the production model in this area. Dimensionally it is based on the Roden kit.
The C-5 Galaxy is a heavy transport aircraft with a high-mounted wing and tail surfaces arranged in a T, with the horizontal tailplane sitting on top of the vertical fin. This layout keeps the tailplane out of the flow from the wing and the engines, but it also creates a large and busy assembly on which any inaccuracy of shape shows clearly. The C-5B version followed the original series as a later production standard.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces on sanding paper laid on a flat board; protect your airways while sanding. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; test the joint dry beforehand and make sure the tailplane sits square and is not tilted. Apply a primer before painting. The light finishes of transport aircraft forgive very little, so take care to smooth the seams and transitions.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
