The Cierva C.30 is among the best known autogyros of the 1930s. An autogyro combines a rotor with a tractor propeller: the rotor is not driven continuously in flight, it is turned by the oncoming airflow and the machine stays airborne by autorotation even at low speeds. Thrust comes from a piston engine in the nose. It was exactly this combination that allowed a short takeoff run and calm slow flight, which the aircraft of the day could not manage. Machines of this design flew in Europe and overseas and became the most widespread autogyro of their time.
The 1:144 scale gives a very small model, which the striking silhouette with its long rotor blades suits and which takes up a minimum of room in a display case. Beside ordinary aircraft kits an autogyro comes as a welcome change, because its shape cannot be mistaken for anything else.
Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the cut face carefully. Wash and degrease the model before painting. Make sure the rotor pylon stands upright and the blades stay in one plane: on an autogyro that is the first thing the eye notices on a finished model. The small struts are easier to paint before they are fitted. The particular building procedure and the color schemes are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The set will please collectors of interwar aviation and modelers who build in small scales and want something out of the ordinary in a display case. Paints, glue and other materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
