Douglas DC-8-30 high-lift flaps 1:144 is a resin accessory that on a model replaces a smooth wing with retracted devices by flaps extended into the landing position.
Responsibility details are not available.
A cast resin accessory in 1:144 scale for a model of the Douglas DC-8 series 30 airliner. This is not a kit of the airplane but a replacement for part of the wing: the flaps in the extended position matching approach and landing. Airliner kits usually have the wing molded in the cruise configuration with a smooth trailing edge, so the model stands in a display case in a shape you will never see at an airport.
The DC-8 is a four-engine narrow-body jet airliner with a markedly swept wing and the engines on pylons beneath it. Series 30 is among the long-range standards with higher takeoff weight and a larger fuel load. Extended devices reveal exactly what is otherwise hidden: the flap tracks, the gaps between their individual sections and the stepping of the trailing edge. The model instantly gains an impression of motion even while standing on a base.
A cut into the wing is irreversible, so first scribe the position of the cut and dry-fit how the parts will seat. Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface, and cut the casting blocks off with a saw, not with pliers. Resin comes away under a file faster than plastic, so level the mating surfaces bit by bit and keep checking the fit. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inner surfaces of the flaps and the space under the wing before fitting the parts, as a brush will not reach in there later.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
