Three transport Dakotas at a reduction of 1:144: a museum aircraft from California, an American machine of a troop carrier squadron and the British aircraft of a field marshal.
Responsibility details are not available.
The twin-engine Douglas was the most widespread transport aircraft of the Second World War and, as one of the few types, it lived to see the present day in flying condition. The sheet captures three of its fates at once, and its value lies exactly in that make-up: side by side stand a museum exhibit, a combat machine of a troop carrier squadron and the personal aircraft of one of the best-known Allied commanders.
The Californian aircraft with a civil registration and the wartime number 43-48608 is today the pride of a museum at Paso Robles and flies with a name referring to supply drops. The second machine, with the number 42-32832, belonged to the 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron and carried the code 3A. The third, the British Dakota KN628 of No. 24 Squadron, served Field Marshal Montgomery in the summer of 1945 and therefore had a special maintenance regime and a crew picked directly.
The 1:144 reduction has a practical advantage with this type. The span of the model works out at around twenty centimeters, so a whole group of machines fits side by side and the differences in markings are still legible. Collectors of transport aircraft can thus build the development line of one type without it taking up a whole shelf.
The military machines on the sheet carry an olive upper surface and a gray underside, while the museum aircraft has polished metal with colored stripes, so two entirely different models can be made from the same kit. With a metal surface, take care that the clear coat is perfectly smooth; every unevenness shows under the thin film.
The package consists of a single printed sheet for twin-engine models at this reduction. It does not contain the kit, the paints or the clear coats.
