This accessory from Rise144models replaces the rear end of an F-16C model with the exhaust nozzle of the General Electric engine. It is not a kit of an aircraft but a single, though very visible, part. On a model of a fighter the nozzle is the place everyone looks, and in 1:144 scale a plastic kit renders it only roughly, usually as a closed or shallow cone with no internal structure.
The F-16 was delivered with two different powerplants: an engine from Pratt and Whitney and a General Electric engine of the F110 series. From the outside the machines differ precisely at the rear: on the General Electric version the rear fuselage and the nozzle are markedly bulkier, because the engine has a greater mass flow. It can also be told by the shape and length of the fairing behind the nozzle. For a modeler that is essential: the right nozzle has to be chosen for the particular aircraft, or the model stops matching a particular machine and operator. The shape of the nozzle also changes depending on whether the engine was left open or closed down when parked.
Separate the part from the casting block with a sharp knife or a fine saw and level the mating surface on sandpaper laid on a flat surface, so that the nozzle then seats on the fuselage without a gap. Try dry whether the diameter fits and level any overhang on the fuselage rather than on the casting. It is bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick. Painting: the inside of the nozzle tends to be markedly lighter and different from the rest of the aircraft, while the petals of the outer shroud are darker with a metallic cast and traces of heat discoloration. It is proven practice to paint the nozzle separately before gluing it on, as otherwise the inside is hard to reach.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
