Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet and Russian airborne early warning and control aircraft A-50 (NATO reporting name Mainstay) in 1:144 scale from Trumpeter. The A-50 was created on the airframe of the heavy Il-76 transport and carries the characteristic rotating radar disc, the rotodome, above its fuselage. In 1:144 scale it is a sizeable and striking model.
The A-50 is a flying radar station that serves to detect air targets at long range and to control friendly fighters. It stems from the Il-76 transport, whose fuselage and four jet engines were supplemented by a large rotodome carrying a surveillance radar. It entered service in the 1980s and fills a role similar to the American AWACS system.
Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic; line up the radar disc and its supports and let them dry thoroughly. Glue the cockpit glazing with canopy glue so that it stays clear. Cover the large surfaces with primer and an airbrush - Soviet and Russian machines carried mostly light gray shades. After the gloss varnish and the decals, pick out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
