MiG-19 Canopy Set in 1:144 scale is a replacement vacuum-formed canopy for a model of the fighter — a thin clear canopy to replace the thick-walled part from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A clear canopy set from Mark I for a model of the MiG-19 fighter in 1:144 scale. This is not a kit but a replacement part: a vacuum-formed canopy has a markedly thinner wall than an injection-molded part, so the framing looks finer and the cockpit can be seen into better. The exact contents of the package and the number of pieces in the set are stated on the box.
The MiG-19 was a single-seat twin-engine jet fighter with a swept wing, the first Soviet production fighter able to fly at supersonic speed in level flight. It was operated by a great many users and came in several versions differing in equipment and armament; at a small scale a cleanly executed cockpit is one of the few details that really do show on a finished model.
A vacuum-formed part is not cut out but sanded out. Leave a margin around the canopy, sand the backing on fine abrasive paper laid on a flat board and carry on until you reach the parting line exactly, where the part separates by itself. Try the fit on the fuselage as you go — you can always take more off, but you cannot put it back. For gluing use a glue that dries clear (the type for clear parts), which leaves neither haze nor milky edges; ordinary cement for plastic etches a clear part and dulls it. Spray the framing through a mask cut from masking tape. Before painting it is worth dipping the part in a polish for clear parts, which brings out the clarity.
This is an accessory, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
