An accessory from the Czech maker Brengun for the plastic MiG-17PF model named in the title. It is not a kit or a whole model but a single clear part that replaces the original injected canopy with a thinner and cleaner one.
The MiG-17PF was the interceptor version intended for flight in poor visibility and at night. It is told from the day version by the revised air intake with the radar antenna housings, which change the shape of the nose. So if you are building a PF, keep an eye on whether your accessories match that particular version and not the basic day machine.
On a clear part the result is decided mainly by how clean the transition between the glazing and the frame is. The surest way is masking tape cut into thin strips with a sharp scalpel on a smooth surface, laid along the engraved edges of the frame, with the rest of the area covered by a larger piece of tape. The frame is sprayed first in the interior color and only then in the exterior shade, otherwise the covering fuselage color shows through from the inside. Take the tape off soon after the paint has dried so that the adhesive does not bake on, and scrape any overrun away carefully with a toothpick.
A drawn part is cut out of the film, which calls for a calm hand and a margin. Trace the outline with a fine alcohol marker, cut it out roughly with scissors and then run the part over abrasive paper laid on a flat board until you reach the line exactly. Test the fit dry as you go, because material you have taken off does not come back. The interior has to be finished and painted before you glue the canopy on, because after that you cannot get inside. It is glued with a cement for clear parts or with a minimum of gel super glue away from the visible area.
The part is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not include. Glue, paints and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
