Mark I 1:144 RAAF WWII roundels Type B (thick ring) is a sheet of waterslide decals with Australian roundels with a thick ring in six sizes, in two sets.
Responsibility details are not available.
A stand-alone sheet of waterslide decals in 1:144 scale with the roundels of the Royal Australian Air Force of the Second World War in the variant with a thick ring. The name gives six sizes, 18, 24, 30, 36, 48 and 54, and two sets on the sheet. The sheet is applied to a model that is already built and painted; it is neither a kit nor an accessory to one particular box.
A thicker ring makes the roundel optically larger and lighter, which on a finished model is a difference even a layman notices. The choice between a thin and a thick ring follows from the particular subject, as workshop practice differed according to the period and the unit. The practical consequence for a modeler: if you are building several machines from one photographic series, it pays to choose one sheet and stick to it, as mixing both variants on one machine usually makes no sense. A sheet with six diameters covers the small fuselage roundels as well as the large wing ones.
In 1:144 scale the large roundels on the wings are among the decals most easily spoiled: they sit across the leading edge, across the engraving of the flaps and across the riveting. This procedure helps: polish the surface and spray it with a gloss varnish, soak the decal only briefly and slide it onto the model over a sufficient layer of water so that it can still be turned. Align the position by a panel line and only then press the water out with a cotton bud from the center toward the edges. Apply a softener to the broken-up places and leave the decal alone, as a softening film must not be touched or it would tear. Once dry, wipe off any adhesive residue with a damp cloth and even the surface out with a matte varnish.
The product is a decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints and modeling chemicals are not included in the package.
