For a model of a machine with precision munitions it is practically mandatory equipment: an aircraft carrying laser-guided bombs needs something to illuminate the target with, and without a pod under the fuselage the configuration makes no sense.
The Sniper is a modern targeting pod with an electro-optical and infrared sensor and a laser target designator. It is carried under the fuselage or under the wing root and allows the crew to find a target, track it and illuminate it with a laser for guided munitions, even from a great distance. Besides the F-16 it is used by a number of other contemporary combat aircraft, so the same pod appears on machines of several types and operators. It is distinctive for its slender cylindrical body with a rotating ball head at the front.
In 1:144 scale the pod is only a few millimeters long. Cut it from the casting block with a sharp knife or a fine saw and limit sanding to the mating surface, so that the shape of the head with the sensor is preserved. Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water and spray it with a thin coat of primer. Pods tend to be in a uniform lighter gray shade that often differs from the camouflage of the aircraft, and at this scale the sensor window is best suggested with a drop of gloss varnish after painting in a dark shade. It is bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick; before that, try dry how the part sits on the chosen pylon.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
