The Tu-141 Strizh is an operational-tactical unmanned reconnaissance aircraft developed by the Tupolev design bureau and brought into service at the end of the 1970s. Structurally it is a tailless airframe with a delta wing and a turbojet in the rear of the fuselage. Launch was from a mobile ramp on a chassis, using a jettisonable booster, and landing was by parachute with damping elements, so the vehicle could be used repeatedly. It carried reconnaissance equipment and was intended for reconnaissance to a greater depth than the smaller and better-known Tu-143 Reys. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject precisely because of its unusual silhouette with no tail surfaces.
The real subject has large smooth surfaces on which every unevenness shows, so spend time sanding the joint lines down and use a primer that will reveal any flaws in good time. Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand them with respiratory protection; glue them with cyanoacrylate. Bend the photo-etched parts over a sharp edge. Apply the decals to a glossy base and use a softener; at the end unify the surface with a matte or satin varnish. Keep the weathering in check, as a smooth subject in a small scale will take only a gentle accentuation of the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
