1:144 Zero and Rufe: a vacuum-formed canopy is a replacement clear canopy for a model in 1:144 scale. It is not a kit: it is an accessory to the Sweet kit, which you need to have.
Responsibility details are not available.
A vacuum-formed clear cockpit canopy from the Czech maker Brengun, intended for models of the Japanese A6M Zero carrier fighter and its floatplane derivative, the A6M2-N Rufe, scaled to 1:144. The accessory replaces the clear part from the box and assumes the Sweet kit.
Clear film is heated and drawn by vacuum onto a metal form, which produces a shell a fraction of the thickness of an injected part. The difference shows mainly from the side: a thin wall does not distort the view into the cockpit, it has no darkened rim around the edge and it picks up no optical flaws along the parting plane of a mold. In 1:144 scale, where the whole cockpit is the size of a grain of rice, this small thing does more than any other accessory.
A canopy is not cut out of the film with a knife through the middle; the outline is traced instead. The proven procedure is to go round the seating line several times with a blunt tip or a sharp scalpel, only halfway through the thickness, and then to break the part out of the film. Sand the remaining rim flat, best by laying abrasive paper on the table and running the canopy over it in circles until the seating edge is straight and even. Clarity comes back with polishing and a dip in gloss varnish. It is glued with a clear cement for glazing or with white glue, which does not fog it; super glue would smoke the surface. The frames are masked and sprayed at the very end.
The accessory is supplied without a kit and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
