1:700 HMS Colombo is a kit of the British light cruiser from the Trumpeter brand. A classic small-scale ship subject that slots easily into a collection in a uniform scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit from the manufacturer Trumpeter captures the British light cruiser HMS Colombo in the ship scale of 1:700. Trumpeter has an extensive line of British vessels in this scale and HMS Colombo fits into it as a sister ship of other units of the same class that are also available. Thanks to the scale the model is compact and suits a display case with other ships of the same format, where the real proportion of sizes can be seen.
HMS Colombo belonged to the British C-class light cruisers, that is to a numerous family of vessels from the end of the First World War and the early 1920s. They were fast, relatively lightly armored ships intended for scouting, escort and the protection of trade routes. During the Second World War a number of units of this class went through a conversion into anti-aircraft cruisers, in which both the armament and the superstructure changed. Which particular period and configuration the model captures is not stated in the name.
With ships in 1:700 scale, patience in cleaning up the parts and judgment in painting decide the outcome. Spray the hull and the decks separately and join them only afterwards; that way you avoid overspray and masking. Glue the deck equipment, the boats and the guns on only after the base coat. Thin features such as railings, nets and rigging are usually handled in this scale with photo-etched parts and stretched thin thread; photo-etched sets and wooden decks for that are made as separate accessories. The weathering should be restrained: edges brought out dry, fine rusty traces below the hawse holes and a light darkening in the places where moisture collects. The model looks good on a stand as well as set into a water base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
