A deck set for a model of the famous tea clipper Cutty Sark in 1:150 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from Artwox Model for a model of the most famous British sailing ship. On a clipper the deck is full of hatches, capstans and mast bases, so a surface with the grain of planks does not just make a prettier area here but unifies the whole impression of the ship. The 1:150 scale follows from the name.
The Cutty Sark was launched in 1869 at Dumbarton in Scotland as a composite build, that is an iron frame with wooden planking. She came too late for the tea route from China, because steamers passing through Suez took the trade over, but in carrying Australian wool she was among the fastest sailing ships in history. Today she stands in dry dock at Greenwich in London and is open to visitors. The name of the ship comes from an old Scots poem and recalls a witch's short shift, which the figurehead at the bow wears as well.
With a sailing ship the order matters most: finish the deck before you start on the masts and the rigging, as you will not reach it afterward. Check the openings for the heels of the masts dry. Leave the surface light and do not weather it toward gray; clippers were scrubbed and had well kept decks. The rigging will take you several evenings, so take the deck work as the first step, not the last.
