An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet twin-engine bomber Tupolev Tu-2 in the early VS form in 1:48 scale from Xuntong Models. It is a large and richly structured model with a great many parts, clear parts for the glazing and a decal sheet. The VS form captures the early production version with dive brakes and rails for rockets, which sets it apart from the later versions.
The Tupolev Tu-2 was a Soviet twin-engine medium bomber with twin vertical tail surfaces and radial engines. It was notable for its good speed, bomb load and toughness and ranked among the most successful Soviet bombers of the Second World War and of the postwar era. The early forms carried dive brakes for dive attacks and additional rocket armament under the wings alongside the bomb bay in the fuselage.
Because of the large number of parts, plan the build out and dry-fit the parts. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement, finish the glazed cockpits and mask the glazing before the fuselage is closed up. Work through the engine nacelles, the landing gear bays and the bomb bay in a logical order. Spray the Soviet scheme with an airbrush after applying a primer, lay the decals onto a gloss coat and finish the weathering by letting a wash flow into the panel lines.
