A model of the Czechoslovak vz. 36 mortar of eight centimeter caliber in 1:16 scale. A companion to figures of the same size and a display piece in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
A mortar is a smoothbore weapon that fires on a steep trajectory, so it can reach a target hidden behind rising ground. It consists of a barrel, a bipod and a baseplate, into which the recoil is fed at the moment of firing. It is exactly this trio that gives a mortar its characteristic silhouette, which the model in 1:16 scale shows in full detail.
For an artillery weapon, 1:16 is a generous scale. It brings out the layout of the baseplate, the mounting of the bipod and the shape of the barrel, that is the detail that blurs together in small scales. The model goes well with figures of the same scale and stands up equally well on its own. The weapon was served standing and kneeling alike, so there is plenty of room around it for a scene with several figures.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Dry-fit them first, especially the bipod, so that the weapon finally stands firmly on all three bearing points. Lay the paint down in thin layers over a base coat. The edges of the baseplate and the legs of the bipod take well to rubbed-through highlights, because that is exactly where the finish wore most on the real weapon. Keep the dusting closer to the ground.
The model will please collectors of home-grown equipment and builders of figure scenes in a large scale. Figures, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
