Tellermine 29 1:16 is a modeling accessory, a reduction of the German antitank mine of an interwar pattern. It serves as a detail for dioramas and for vehicle models in a large scale.

A reduction of the German antitank mine designated Tellermine 29 in 1:16 scale. It is a separate modeling accessory, that is a detail added to a finished vehicle model or to a diorama, not a model in its own right. The large 1:16 scale makes high demands on small equipment, because everything on it is clearly visible, and that is precisely why it pays to reach for a finished part instead of improvising from plastic stock.
The Tellermine 29 was the first standardized German antitank mine, introduced in the late 1920s. The German word Teller, meaning plate, refers to the characteristic flat, plate-like shape with a round body and a lid in the middle. The design developed into further patterns in the following years, so the interwar type is a good guide for dating a scene. In modeling you will meet mines of this shape above all in engineer subjects, on vehicles carrying materiel and in scenes with a field dump.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry. After a primer, apply a dark gray or field gray-green shade according to the period you are building. The flat lid is a rewarding surface for a graded patina, that is a dark wash around the rim, fine abrasions on the edge and a matte surface with no gloss. Mines look convincing in a group, stacked on one another or in an open box on the bed of a vehicle, or else lined up beside an engineer squad.
