WEIKERT DECALS 1:16 Tiger I 1331, LSSAH, Russia, May 1943 is a decal set for a large model of the heavy tank. It serves to finish an already built model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal set in 1:16 scale from the brand WEIKERT DECALS, tied to the Tiger I heavy tank with the vehicle number 1331 and with markings dated to May 1943. It is not a kit but an accessory: the decals are applied to a model you build and paint yourself.
The Tiger I was a heavy tank with an 88 mm gun, a heavily armored slab-sided hull and interleaved road wheels. Four-digit vehicle numbers really were used by some formations, and on the large side of the turret they form a striking element. In 1:16 scale every numeral is big and even a layman can tell how accurately it was laid, which is why working with the decal is worth a whole evening.
A large decal on an intricate turret needs a softener. First the preparatory solution goes onto the glossy base, the decal is laid on it and the excess water is drawn off. Only then is the stronger softener brushed over the film: within a few minutes the decal goes soft, ripples and sinks into the engraved lines and over the edges. In the rippled phase you must not touch it, or it will tear and there is no repairing it. Once dry, the surface levels out. Prick any remaining bubbles with the tip of a scalpel and apply the softener again; on a large area two weaker doses are better than one strong one, because an aggressive solution can dissolve the thin film.
The package contains decals. The model, paints, varnish and softener are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
