A figure of an American tank crewman of the Second World War period in 1:16 scale. Classy Hobby keeps it in a range that completes its own large models of light armored vehicles in the same scale, so the figure fits a turret hatch as well as a place beside a vehicle on a base. The 1:16 scale is rewarding for figures: the surfaces are large enough for honest work on the painting of the face and the uniform, while the model loses none of the sharpness of its detail.
In American armored units the tank commander belonged to the crew that operated a light or medium tank from the turret. A typical mark is working overalls or a blouse completed by a leather tank helmet with large ear flaps, which did not serve as protection against shell splinters but mainly as a carrier for headphones and a throat microphone. Commanders rode for the most part with their head above the hatch, because the view from a closed turret was inadequate, and that position is characteristic of the figure.
First try the figure dry in the hatch of your model so that you know how high it will sit, and only then join it finally. Sand the parting lines down and fill the seams, as in a large scale the paint will otherwise pick them out. Apply the base from a can or with an airbrush, build the uniform from a darker base toward working highlights and pick the folds out with a dark wash. Leave the face and the hands for last and paint them in thin layers, as the eyes and the lips set the overall impression more than anything else. Bring the leather of the helmet to life with a fine lightening of the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
