A brass photo-etched instrument panel for the Japanese A6M2 Zero carrier fighter in 1:72 scale, cut for the Airfix kit. It gives the cockpit sharp instrument relief.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi A6M2 was the version with which the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service opened the war in the Pacific and with which it attacked Pearl Harbor. The cockpit had a dark interior, clearly laid out instruments and a reflector gunsight above the pilot's head. In a small scale it is precisely the instrument panel where the molding shows most clearly that the relief is only suggested by a flat area with rings.
The set offers a replacement etched from brass. The instrument bezels, the small levers and the edges of the panel are rendered the way only metal a few tenths of a millimeter thick can manage, and once painted they give the cockpit depth even when seen through the glazing.
Sand the original relief off the plastic part and level the surface. Roughen the brass with fine paper or use a metal primer, otherwise the paint will flake off during handling. Assemble the unit step by step and let every joint set so that the parts do not move. Then pick out the edges and levers with a lighter shade applied with an almost dry brush.
The plastic model is not included in the delivery. Before buying, check which Zero kit you own, because the outlines of the cockpit differ from one manufacturer to another. Fit the finished unit only after the inside of the fuselage has been painted, so that it does not get dusted during spraying.
