About product

ELEFANT 1:35 armored exhaust covers for the Tiger I, without a casting number

A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale from the brand ELEFANT. It is not a kit of the tank but replacement parts for the rear of the hull, which take the place of the armored exhaust covers from the original kit. According to the name the set is cut for Rye Field Model kits, RFM for short, and the material is enough for two vehicles. In this version the surface of the covers is without a raised casting number. The covers match the production stages of the Tiger I from the initial through the early and mid to the late ones.

What the set is for

The rear plate of the hull is among the most closely watched parts of a Tiger I model. Injection-molded plastic runs up against wall thickness and limited sharpness of surface here, whereas a resin casting manages a finer shape and thinner edges. The version without a maker's mark is the universal choice: it does not tie you to one particular vehicle and serves well where you do not have a photograph sharp enough to determine the surface detail. If you want an exact match to a photograph, the brand also issues the same set with a raised number.

Building and painting tips

Cut the original plastic covers away and level the mating surface on the rear, so that the new part sits without a gap. Wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise the paint will not hold on the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, not with nippers. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, with super glue. Apply a base coat before painting; smooth resin needs one. The area around the exhausts is the most rewarding place for a patina: combine rust, soot and dust and soften the transitions between them, so that they do not look stuck on. A dry brush on the edges will add relief.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Tiger I from Rye Field Model kits.
  • Anyone after the universal version without a maker's mark.
  • Modelers who care about thin edges and a faithful hull rear.
  • Builders with experience of resin and cyanoacrylate glue.

This is an accessory set, not a model of the tank. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is an accessory set of replacement parts; the base kit has to be obtained separately.

According to the name it is cut for Tiger I kits from Rye Field Model. For kits from other manufacturers there are separate variants.

This set has a surface without a raised maker's mark; the sister variant has one. What decides is the vehicle you are building.

The original plastic covers have to be cut away and resin and cyanoacrylate glue have to be worked with. We recommend it to modelers with some practice.
