About product

ELEFANT 1:35 armored exhaust covers for the Tiger I, with a casting number

A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale from the brand ELEFANT. It is not a kit of the tank but replacement parts for the rear of the hull, with which you replace the armored exhaust covers supplied in the base kit. According to the name the set is cut for Rye Field Model kits, RFM for short, and the material is enough for two vehicles. This variant has a casting number worked into the surface, that is, the maker's mark that the real covers carried. The covers cover the production stages of the Tiger I from the initial through the early and mid to the late ones.

What the set is for

The rear plate of the hull on the Tiger I is clearly visible and full of detail, so every compromise tells on it. Injection-molded plastic is limited in wall thickness and in sharpness of surface, whereas a resin casting manages thinner edges and finer relief. A casting number is a detail that differed from vehicle to vehicle, and modelers use it to tune a model to a particular period photograph. Anyone who does not need such a detail will reach for the smooth variant without a number, which the brand issues separately.

Building and painting tips

Cut the original plastic covers away and level the surface on the rear, so that the new part sits without a gap. Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise the paint will not hold on the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, not with nippers, which crumble resin. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, with super glue. Apply a base coat before painting. The area around the exhausts takes a heavy patina, so shades of rust and soot and deposits of dust suit it. A casting number stands out if you let a thin wash run into its edges and then go lightly over the area with a dry brush.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Tiger I from Rye Field Model kits.
  • Anyone after a faithful hull rear with thin cover edges.
  • Modelers who tune a model to a particular period photograph.
  • Builders with experience of resin and cyanoacrylate glue.

This is an accessory set, not a model of the tank. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
