Responsibility details are not available.
A themed set from the French manufacturer Heller in 1:72 scale. These are injection-molded plastic models tied together by a common subject, the air operations over Normandy in 1944. The 1:72 scale is ideal for this kind of set: the models take up little room and can be built into a shared display scene.
The summer months of 1944 brought an exceptional concentration of aircraft over north-western France. Fighters and ground-attack types supporting the troops operated over the coast and inland, together with transports keeping the supplies moving and reconnaissance types mapping the situation. From a modeling point of view the period is marked above all by the broad black and white recognition stripes that Allied machines carried on their wings and fuselages — and it is those stripes that make the subject recognizable in a display case at first glance.
The recognition stripes can be done two ways. Decals are quicker, but they settle less well on curved surfaces and have to be worked in with a decal softener. Spraying through masks looks better, but it means starting with the white, letting it cure properly and only then masking the black bands. Glue the models with thin cement for polystyrene, mask the clear glazing before painting and go over the surfaces with a gloss clear coat before the decals. A final matte clear coat evens out the finish and hides the edges of the decals.
The contents of the set are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
