When the boundary between two tones is to be smooth, it is not done in one stroke. You work in several light passes, letting the area set between them, and you move the boundary only a little at a time. The result is a transition without a sharp line, which holds the shape of the part and does not flood the surface detail.
The order of work helps too. First work out where the tone is to be strongest and proceed outwards from there, where you only hint at the paint. Look at the model from a distance between layers, because a transition is judged as a whole, not with a magnifier over one centimeter. Clean the brush and the airbrush properly between colors, otherwise the remains of the previous tone will get into the fine transition and the boundary will go gray. If the transition still does not come off, let the area dry and rather cover it with another light layer than put right paint that is still wet.
Keep out of the reach of children. Work in a ventilated space and use respiratory protection when spraying. The manufacturer's instructions on the label always take precedence.
