The EZ 42 was a German gyroscopic gunsight from the end of the Second World War. Unlike the older fixed gunsights it calculated the lead when firing at a maneuvering target by itself and the pilot only had to keep the mark on the target. It came into service only in the last months of the war and was deployed in small numbers, so it is a detail that places a cockpit in the late period at once.
Two pieces of the gunsight in 1:48 scale. The name states 3D printing and the clear form of the material, so the parts are held by print supports, which are removed before the build. The clear material allows the glass of the gunsight to be left transparent and only the body of the instrument to be painted.
Cut the supports off with sharp side cutters, or cut them away with a blade a little way from the part and sand the rest down carefully, so that no stub is left. Do not sand the visible clear surface; when you need to clean it, polish it with a fine polish and go over it with a gloss varnish, which closes up small traces of printing. Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water and degrease it before painting, as the paint otherwise holds badly on printed resin. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in the smallest possible amount and away from the visible surface, as its fumes fog a clear surface; the glass of the gunsight is therefore better masked or left free. Paint the body in a dark shade and lighten the edges carefully.
For modelers who are finishing the cockpit of a late German fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale and want a gunsight sharper than the one the kit offers. The second piece in the package will serve as a spare or for another model.
