An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:20 scale from Tamiya captures the famous six-wheeled Formula One car Tyrrell P34 in the form it had at the 1977 Monaco Grand Prix. The package contains plastic parts, clear parts and decals for period sponsor and team markings.
The Tyrrell P34 was the only six-wheeled car ever to start in Formula One. Instead of two large front wheels it had four small front wheels — that was to reduce frontal drag and at the same time keep enough contact patch for braking and for cornering; at the rear the car kept two conventional wheels. It was powered by the proven Ford Cosworth DFV engine. In the 1977 season the car ran in the distinctive form that this kit captures.
The exposed suspension, the Ford Cosworth DFV engine and the six wheels leave room for detailed work, so paint the subassemblies before final assembly. Use thin modeling cement on the plastic and glue the clear parts with a glue for clear parts. Spray the painted body with an airbrush over a primer and overcoat it with gloss; apply the sponsor decals onto a smooth gloss surface. Pay particular attention to the symmetry of the four front wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
