The jet exhaust is a place on a model where the plastic parts from the box often lose out: they tend to be thick-walled, with a visible mold seam inside and with a crudely suggested interior. The Reskit set handles the end section of the exhaust of the F-86F aircraft and of its RF-86F reconnaissance conversion, as a part to be fitted to a finished model. It is a targeted change that shows on a finished kit at once, because the nozzle is visible from behind in every view of the model.
The F-86F Sabre is the late day-fighter version of the famous American swept-wing aircraft, powered by a J47 series jet engine. The RF-86F reconnaissance conversion came about by rebuilding machines of this version, when photographic equipment was added to the fuselage; the airframe and the powerplant, however, stayed the same, and therefore the exhaust of the two versions does not differ. That is precisely why the set covers both designations at once and the modeler does not have to work out which of them is being built.
Cut the original section of the exhaust off the model along the scribed line and sand the cut smooth, so that the new part seats without a step. Degrease the faces, spray them with a base coat and use super glue to join them. Nozzles are usually painted in metallic shades, which look best on a smooth dark surface; a more interesting effect comes from distinguishing the various segments with a subtly different shade of metal. At the end add faint traces of heat staining and soot sparingly; an overdone effect on a small area quickly looks unnatural.
