The set belongs among the aids to painting. The masks are cut to the shape of the surfaces that are to stay unpainted after spraying, and they are stuck onto a model of a heavy infantry fighting vehicle in 1:35 scale that is already under way.

The airbrush setting decides

A mask by itself does not guarantee a sharp edge. If you spray from a long distance and at low pressure, the paint dries in the air already and a grainy band forms at the edge of the mask. If, on the other hand, you go in close and heavy, the paint spreads and creeps under the film. The proven route is medium pressure, a distance of about ten centimeters and several thin coats with a short pause between them.

Use

• Lay the first coat on very sparingly and only at the edge of the mask; it seals the edge for the coats that follow.
• Direct the stream of paint at a right angle to the mask, not from the side under its edge.
• Let the paint become tacky between coats, or a wet deposit builds up under the mask.
• Keep the nozzle clean; dried paint on the tip makes spatters that the mask will not catch.
• Once the spraying is finished, take the mask off before you start on the weathering.
