A sheet of waterslide decals from the Mark I brand. It is not a kit and not a finished model, but marking that is applied to an aircraft already built and painted. The theme of the sheet is narrowly defined by one type, which is an advantage for a modeler: the decals are drawn for a particular machine and not as a universal set.
The SE.535 Mistral is the French form of the British de Havilland Vampire jet aircraft, built by the SNCASE company, that is, Sud-Est. The French took over the characteristic structure with a short fuselage nacelle and a twin tail carried on booms, but installed a more powerful Rolls-Royce Nene jet engine in it, produced in France under license, and added equipment and armament of their own. The Mistral thus became one of the machines on which the French Air Force moved over to jet equipment in the 1950s. For a modeler it is an interesting and less usual alternative to the British Vampires.
Go over the surface under the marking with gloss varnish, so that it is smooth and no air gets caught under the film. With the gloss metal and silver finishes that often appear on jet machines of that time this is particularly important, because every matte frame around a decal would show. Cut the decal out together with the backing, dip it briefly in lukewarm water and let it rest. Slide it onto the model with a moistened brush, press the water out with a soft cloth and apply a decal softener, so that the marking falls into the engraved lines and across the transitions between the nacelle and the booms. Finally overcoat with matte or satin varnish according to the character of the finish.
