A cork roadbed under H0 track from Green Stuff World gives the line the profile of a ballast bed and at the same time damps the noise of a passing train.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cork roadbed is glued onto the baseboard of the layout and the track is laid on top of it. The line thereby stands out above the surrounding terrain, so that a natural embankment profile arises, and the resilient cork layer at the same time absorbs vibration and perceptibly quietens the running of a train. This package is intended for H0 scale, that is, for a model railroad in 1:87 scale.
Why cork in particular
Cork is light, cuts and shapes well and, unlike wood, practically does not move with moisture. On a curve it bends and holds its shape, so even a more complicated routing of the line can be followed with it. The surface is at the same time rough enough for ballast and paint to hold on it.
For railroad modelers who build layouts in H0 scale and for makers of dioramas where the line is meant to stand out above the terrain. The roadbed is glued with PVA wood glue or with contact adhesive; with PVA gluing, weight the cork down until the glue has dried. It is cut with a sharp knife with a fresh blade, and the edges can be sanded into the slope of an embankment.
Cork is a natural material, and the shade and the texture may differ slightly from package to package. Before gluing, rid the surface of dust, so that the glue holds.
