Landing flaps for the Douglas DC-10 and the MD-11 in 1:200 scale. An add-on set for a landing configuration of the model; it is not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set from LACI intended for models of the wide-body three-engine DC-10 and MD-11 airliners in 1:200 scale. This is not an aircraft model but a replacement for the rear part of the plastic wing of the kit. After installation the model has a landing configuration with the high-lift devices extended, that is, the form of the aircraft on approach to the runway.
The Douglas DC-10 entered service at the beginning of the 1970s as a wide-body aircraft with two engines under the wing and a third in the root of the vertical tail. The MD-11 is its later development with a stretched fuselage, a new wing ending in winglets and a modernized flight deck. Both types spent a large part of their careers on long-haul routes, and the MD-11 in freighter form stayed in service long after the passenger versions had finished. The characteristic silhouette with an engine in the tail belongs among the most recognizable shapes in civil aviation.
Before cutting, make sure which real subject you are building the model as, because the DC-10 and the MD-11 differ in span and in the shape of the wingtip. Cut the rear edge of the wing off with a saw in thin steps and even the cut out with abrasive paper on a hard backing. Dry-fit the parts and check for the same extension angle on the left and the right. Paint the inner surfaces before gluing. Bond plastic with cement for plastic, and a joint with another material with super glue in a minimal amount. In 1:200 scale the parts are tiny, so it pays off to work with tweezers.
