The Slingsby Kirby Kite N37190 is a kit of the British single-seat glider in 1:48 scale from LACI.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the British single-seat Slingsby Kirby Kite glider in the markings of a particular machine with the registration N37190. The letter N at the beginning corresponds to the American civil register, so this is an airframe operated across the ocean. It is exactly the particular machine that sets this item apart from the other boxes of the same series.
The Kirby Kite is a single-seat sporting glider from the British firm Slingsby, dating from the middle of the 1930s. It has a wooden frame, fabric covering and a striking cranked gull wing of large span, which gives the machine an instantly recognizable silhouette. Gliders of this type were used for training and for performance cross-country flights, and individual airframes gradually found their way into the hands of private owners and into collections all over the world, including machines entered in the American register. It is just such an airframe that this variant captures.
The long slender wing calls for a straight seating and careful setting of the dihedral, so dry-fit the whole assembly and glue it on a flat surface. Match the choice of glue to the material of the parts; on resin and printed parts reach for super glue and wash the parts first. The period fabric covering can be suggested by a fine shading of the ribs and a barely perceptible unevenness of sheen. Registrations on gliders tend to be large, so lay down a gloss clear coat under the decals and unify the surface with a matte one at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
