The parts are made of colored plastic and join by clipping together, so the model comes about by purely mechanical building according to the enclosed illustrated instructions. The Youngtimer range is aimed at civil automobiles of the second half of the twentieth century, and the Citroën DS 19 is one of its most striking subjects. The 1:12 scale means a large model with a clearly readable body, which suits a shelf and a display case alike.
The Citroën DS was presented at the Paris motor show in 1955 and immediately became a symbol of technical and artistic progress. The DS 19 version carried an inline four-cylinder engine of just under two liters and drove the front wheels. The best known feature of the car was the hydropneumatic suspension, which leveled the ride height by itself and gave the car its famously soft ride; the brakes and the power steering were tied into the same hydraulic circuit. The aerodynamic body from the workshop of Flaminio Bertoni differed so much from the competition of the day that the car earned the nickname Déesse, meaning goddess. The DS stayed in production until the middle of the 1970s and to this day is one of the most collected French automobiles.
The build proceeds step by step according to numbered instructions, which lead from the chassis to the body. It pays off to sort the parts out in advance by shape and color and to work on a flat surface, so that the small bricks do not get lost. The finished model is strong and will take ordinary handling, so it can be picked up and shown without falling apart. At the same time the whole thing is demountable and can be put together again at any time, which anyone will appreciate who likes to repeat a build or to store a model. Maintenance is simple: dust can be swept off with a soft brush.
