Environmental control system outlets for the Super Hornet in 1:48 scale, late version

This item is not an airplane model but a detail set from Quickboost. It replaces the outlets of the environmental control system, that is the air conditioning and cockpit pressurization, through which the real Super Hornet vents hot air out of the fuselage. In plastic kits this area is usually simplified into a blind bump. The replacement part opens it up and gives it back the shape you can recognize on the aircraft even from a distance.

The real subject and the difference between the versions

The Boeing F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet is an enlarged and essentially new machine derived from the original Hornet, with General Electric F414 engines and a larger wing. The electronic warfare aircraft is based on the two-seat version. The environmental control outlets changed during production, so Quickboost offers two separate sets. This one is intended for the later version. Check first, then, which production form your model represents, because the two sets are not interchangeable.

Usage tips

Cut the original part off with a saw or a sharp scalpel and level the area on the fuselage by wet sanding. Wash the new part in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic does not hold here. Fill the seam and sand it down before you start spraying the primer, otherwise it will show once the model is varnished.
