An add-on wheel set for car models. The subject is the British pressed steel wheel known under the Rostyle designation, in the version with a 10 inch diameter. A size this small was carried by the smallest British cars, where the wheel sits deep in the arch and its shape is therefore visible from the side as well as from the front.

The real subject

Rostyle is a wheel pattern that appeared on British cars from the 1960s on. It was not a cast wheel in light alloy but a pressed steel disc with a shaped face that imitated more expensive sporting wheels. That is exactly its charm: it looks striking and yet it is a plain production wheel. On a model you can recognize it by the broken-up face with cut-outs and the offset center.

Installation and painting

• Fit the wheel dry first and check that the axle stub matches the hole in the hub.
• Open the hole up carefully as needed so that the wheel sits square and does not rub anywhere.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder down.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
• The broken-up face stands out when a darker shade is worked into the recesses and the raised areas are lightened.
• Set the wheels so that all four sit evenly on the base.
