The competition version of the Fiat 131, modified in the workshops of Abarth, was among the most successful cars of the world championship at the turn of the seventies and eighties. It won the make three titles among the manufacturers, and in 1980 Walter Rohrl took the first place among the drivers with it as well. The car stood on fourteen-inch wheel rims whose simple spoked outline became as much a part of its recognizable mark as the rectangular headlights and the intake opening in the hood.
The set brings the wheel rims alone. There are no tires in it; the assumption is that a modeler will choose gravel or tarmac shoes for them according to the stage being built, and the manufacturer offers variants in which the rubber is already included.
Cut the rim away from the sprue with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on glass, so that the wheel does not sit askew. Have the casting washed, otherwise the primer will not adhere. Begin painting with a light gloss layer, because the spokes have hard edges and a matte base will swallow their drawing.
The accessory is aimed at the builder who does not get on with the wheels from the box, whether in shape, in diameter, or because on older molds the parting line is imprinted right across the bead. Changed wheels at the same time alter the impression a model makes more than most other alterations, because a viewer always has them in view. Do not forget to even up the track as well: new wheels tend to be recessed into the fender somewhat differently, and a few tenths of a millimeter on the axle decide whether the car stands firmly on the road or as if it were about to drive off sideways.
