Masks for the glazing of the late Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 in one twenty-fourth. They deal with the windscreen, the hinged hood and the armored glass and add four sets of masks for national markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last 109 built in series received a cockpit that differs from the older versions at first glance. The hinged part above the pilot's head was blown out into a curve and relieved of most of its bars, so the view to the rear improved by a whole order. A modeler finds that out as soon as he reaches for the scissors: there is almost nothing to cover here, but the little there is has to fit absolutely exactly, because every inaccuracy lies in the middle of a clean transparent area and has nowhere to hide. This paradox of the late versions surprises everybody who expected to save time.
The work concentrates on three places. The first is the windscreen with its fixed frame, the second the narrow rim of the hinged part and the third the pane of armored glass, which on the late machines stood separately behind the windscreen. The set encloses parts for them in two layers, that is for the view from outside and for the reverse side, which on the open cockpit of a large model shows at once.
The package carries four sets of masks for national markings as well. A sprayed marking holds its shape even where a decal would have to bridge a raised part or a panel division, and it leaves no trace of a carrier film on the surface. A kit of your own, paint shades and a fine airbrush are needed with the set, and none of that is in the bag. For the large scale it holds that a mask gets on best with a well-matured finish, so between the individual steps it is sensible to give the model an extra day and not to hurry the parts off.
