An injection-molded plastic kit of the BMW 320 Group 5 racing car in 1:24 scale from Italeri. According to the manufacturer the kit contains chrome-plated parts, rubber tires and a rich decal sheet. One of the marking schemes captures car number 57, with which Markus Höttinger contested the German touring car championship (DRM) in 1978.
For the tough Group 5 category BMW fielded a special derived from the then new 320 (E21 series). Heavily reworked aerodynamics with massively flared fenders, wide tires and a turbocharged four-cylinder of around 300 horsepower made it a dangerous rival. The car ran under the works team banner and also served as a school for young up-and-coming drivers. The Group 5 era with its silhouette specials is among the most attractive chapters of circuit racing at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s.
On a racing car it is the clean finish and the accurately placed sponsor decals that decide. Smooth the body, spray a primer and paint it; match the base under the livery to the decals. Fit the chrome parts and the glazing only after painting. Lay the rich advertising livery on patiently and soften the decals so that they settle into the shapes. Paint the interior with its roll cage and seat separately. Join the plastic with a thin polystyrene cement.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
