A set of masking templates for a model of the Hellcat in the large 1:24 scale. The templates have a finished shape, are laid on the place concerned and the paint is applied over them. The lengthy cutting of tape directly on the part, in which a single scratch of the blade marks the surface, thus falls away.
The F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It had a massive fuselage, a wide track of the landing gear and wings folding back along the sides, so that the machine would fit into the hangar of an aircraft carrier. The F6F-5 version was built in the greatest numbers of all the variants and is also among the most frequently built models of this type.
In 1:24 scale a model is large and every inaccuracy is clearly visible on it. The edge of a sprayed coat led along a template is sharp along its whole length and the paint does not run under the edge. The work is moreover repeatable, because both halves of the same shape come from one pattern and do not depend on how precisely you lead your hand.
Stick the templates onto a dry and degreased surface before spraying and press the edges down with a blunt tool, so that no gap is left anywhere. Spray the paint in thin coats perpendicular to the surface. Take the template off while the coat is fresh, otherwise the edge of the paint may tear away with it.
