A set of colored 3D decals for the interior of a model of the Hawker Typhoon in the early form with the side door, in 1:24 scale. According to the name these are printed and colored elements laid on decal paper, which are applied like a decal but create a three-dimensional surface on the model. They replace the flat parts of the kit, so the laborious painting of small details is no longer needed. It is neither a kit nor a resin replacement part.

The real subject

The Hawker Typhoon was a British single-engined fighter and attack machine with a massive airframe and a large engine. Early examples had the cockpit reached through a door in the side of the fuselage and a framed canopy, and only the later forms got a teardrop canopy with a better view. It is exactly the early version with the door that is rewarding in 1:24 scale, because a large model shows a great deal of the interior.

How to apply the 3D decals

• Leave the area under the decal smooth and glossy; the element has no adhesive layer of its own and will not hold on a matte coat.
• Release the decal after about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and move it into place with a soft brush, not with tweezers.
• Blot the excess water with a paper tissue and let the decal dry undisturbed.
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as their chemicals attack the printed resin and ruin the element.
• Flatten the finished interior with a varnish if needed, so that the three-dimensional elements fit in with their surroundings.
