Another of the shape versions of the cooler for compressed air in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts. It is intended for builders of car models who are completing the whole induction route of a turbocharged engine and want the cooler visible in the grille or under the bumper.
A charge air cooler is a simple heat exchanger with no moving parts: the compressed air from the turbo flows through the core, and the air drawn in by driving flows around the fins. Visually it is one of the most striking elements of a tuned car, because for the sake of looks it is often deliberately left uncovered. That is exactly why it pays on a model to give attention not only to seating the part but above all to its surface, as the eye picks up the regular grid of the fins immediately.
Once you have washed the mold release agent off and removed the casting block, prime the part; with resin a primer is not optional, as it is what holds the metallic shades that follow. The core is sprayed with a matte aluminum color, while the side tanks tend to be more polished or, the other way round, painted in the color of the car. If you want the tanks set apart, mask them only once the base coat has dried and use a low-tack masking tape, so that it does not pull the paint off the edges when it comes away. Metallic shades are harder to spray over and take masking badly, so apply them as late as possible. At the end comes a dark wash between the fins and fine drybrushing on the edges. Glue the cooler into the model with super glue at the very end, when the front of the body is painted as well, which will spare you overspray on a finished surface.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. The part is supplied unpainted; glue, paints and pipework are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
