An injection-molded plastic kit of the second-generation Isuzu Gemini passenger car, internal designation JT150, in the sporting Irmscher Turbo variant from 1989. The model in 1:24 scale comes from the Japanese firm Hasegawa and belongs among its releases of civilian cars, which are built on a restrained number of parts and an accurate body.
The second-generation Gemini abandoned the rear-wheel drive of its predecessor and moved to front-wheel drive with a transversely mounted engine. The car made its mark mainly through its compact dimensions, low weight and surprisingly good handling, to which a European chassis tuning contributed. The version carrying the name of the German firm Irmscher was at the top of the range: it was given a turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, a modified chassis, sports seats and distinguishing exterior features. In Japan the model became popular partly thanks to an inventive advertising campaign, and to this day it is among the prized compacts of the end of the 1980s.
On civilian cars the quality of the finish decides more than the number of parts. First wash the body thoroughly to remove the remains of mold release agent, sand the mold seams over and apply a filler primer. Spray the paint with an airbrush in several thin coats and let it dry between them. Create the gloss only with the final clear coat and light polishing with polishing compounds. Pick out the window frames and the trim with a thin brush or using masking tape. The interior and the chassis, on the other hand, should be toned down with matte shades: on the finished model they are visible only through the windows and look better when they do not compete with the glossy body.
