An injection-molded plastic kit of a modern road tractor unit in 1:24 scale from Italeri. At this scale a finished truck has respectable dimensions and the build matches what modelers expect of commercial vehicles - a separate frame, an engine, a cab with an interior and a range of chrome parts. The model is supplied as a set of parts on sprues. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and the presence of photo-etched parts are given on the box and in the enclosed instructions.
The Iveco Hi-Way is a long-distance tractor unit, a cab variant derived from the Stralis range. The number 480 in the designation corresponds to the power version of the engine, and the abbreviation E5 to the Euro 5 emission standard the vehicle meets. The Low Roof form means a lower cab roof - it is used where the overall height of the rig matters or where a full living space with room to stand up is not needed, that is typically in domestic and regional transport. The vehicle belongs to the generation of European tractor units in which an aerodynamically shaped cab, extensive glazing and an emphasis on driver comfort over long routes came to the fore.
Work in subassemblies: the frame with the axles separately, the engine separately, the cab separately. It makes sense to paint and polish the cab before the windows, the handles and the chrome parts go on. The large smooth surfaces of a cab forgive nothing - the base has to be sanded perfectly and the finish applied in thin coats, otherwise every scratch will show in the reflection. Cut the chrome parts off the sprue carefully and touch the cut faces in; bare plastic on chrome is visible from a distance. Apply the decals onto a glossy surface and settle large areas of film with a softener. It pays to work the cab interior up, because it is clearly visible through the large windows.
